What to do · North Yorkshire

Go a little further.
Or nowhere at all.

Woodland walks, open views, market towns and an unhurried afternoon back at Mabel. Pick the pace that suits you.

Woodland and open countryside in Yorkshire

01 · Take the scenic route

Good boots.
Better views.

Explore Silton Forest and Boltby Woods, or head to Sutton Bank and the White Horse of Kilburn for the views. Osmotherly offers village walks and a reservoir to wander around.

Prefer to stay close? There’s a short private lane within the farmland for a gentle stroll. Ask Jo and Nigel for local route ideas and directions.

02 · Out on two wheels

A gentle tootle.
Or a proper climb.

The existing local guide highlights National Cycle Network routes within reach, with Sutton Bank and White Horse Bank for a more demanding ride. Secure bike space is available back at Mabel.

Check your route, conditions and access before setting off. For something different, ask about pony trekking around Boltby Woods.

03 · Towns, gardens & culture

A day out,
your way.

Thirsk & Northallerton

Market-town browsing, cafés and a change of pace. Thirsk is also home to the World of James Herriot, the Ritz Cinema and Rural Arts.

Gardens & history

The original guide suggests Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Mount Grace Priory, Newby Hall and Thorpe Perrow.

A little further afield

Ripon, Harrogate, York and Richmond offer plenty to explore if you fancy making a day of it.

Ideas adapted from Jo and Nigel’s existing guide. Please check current opening times, tickets, access and dog policies directly with each venue before travelling.

An evening sky over the countryside

04 · Keep it simple

Sometimes,
staying in wins.

Find a pub in a nearby village, explore the food options in Thirsk, or bring dinner back to your own kitchen. Jo and Nigel can share their current favourites.

A BBQ outside, a film in the cinema room, or a quiet evening on the decking. You don’t have to fill every minute.
